Discover Belleview: Embrace the Heart of Florida
History
Nestled around the picturesque Nine Mile Pond, now known as Lake Lillian, the City of Belleview traces its roots back to 1884. Its founding was inspired by the captivating beauty of the area, prompting the adoption of the name "Belleview," derived from the French words "belle" and "view," signifying "beautiful vistas." While the legend of being named after a founder's daughter persists, historical records discount this tale.
Community Events
At the heart of our cherished "City with Small Town Charm," Lake Lillian serves as a focal point for a myriad of community events throughout the year. In December, the shimmering "Light Up Lake Lillian" casts a warm holiday glow, spreading festive cheer all around. Come October, our delightful "Trunk or Treat" event, held on the Saturday preceding Halloween, offers a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Additionally, we host the monthly "Friday Foodie Fest" by Lake Lillian, from January to September, where you can indulge in delectable treats and camaraderie.
Parks & Facilities
Belleview boasts a diverse range of recreational facilities that cater to both active and passive pursuits. Lake Lillian remains a central attraction, providing fishing docks for children and seniors, charming picnic pavilions, and a scenic walking trail that delights visitors of all ages. This enchanting lake also sets the stage for various civic events, joyful weekend birthday celebrations, and the occasional wedding.
Our vibrant community center, situated at 5615 SE 110th Place in Belleview, adjacent to the Wilma Loar Splash Pad, welcomes businesses to rent and host classes Monday through Thursday in convenient 4-hour time blocks. For private gatherings like baby showers, wedding receptions, and birthday parties, the facility opens its doors from Friday to Sunday. Each day allows for only one rental, ensuring an intimate experience. With space for approximately 100 guests, the center comes equipped with tables, chairs, private bathrooms, and a convenient kitchenette area. Additionally, renters gain access to the spacious attached pavilion.
On the sprawling 80-acre Belleview Sports Complex, sports enthusiasts of all ages revel in a variety of activities. Throughout the year, multiple football, softball, baseball, and soccer leagues, catering to both youth and adults, grace the fields. The complex also houses basketball and tennis courts, a playground for our little ones, and a scenic walking trail meandering through the league fields.
Notably, the Fred King Playground stands as a testament to collaborative efforts, as it was constructed through the generous support of Home Depot KABOOM funding. With the assistance of local businesses, citizens, and dedicated City of Belleview employees, this captivating playground emerged within just six hours. Designed with the younger children in mind, the playground fosters creativity, coordination, and an abundance of physical activities.
Lastly, the City Hall Park, adjacent to the City Hall building, plays host to several annual events, including the Christmas Parade, the Freedom Walk, and Relay for Life activities.
